Admiral Higdon is the Compositor and Editor of the Unofficial STARFLEET History Website, which covers the history of the fan organization STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, Inc., which was awarded the 2001 Information Website of the Year during the 2002 STARFLEET International Conference held in Kansas City, Missouri. The admiral currently serves as the Deputy STARFLEET Historian, having previously served in that position from 1999-2003. General Higdon recently accepted the duties of the STARFLEET Marine Corps (SFMC) Historian.

He also served as the founding Director of the (now defunct) STARFLEET Diplomatic Corps from 1999-2000 and a second time as director in 2004. He also served as the Illinois Sector Advocate of the Region 12 Command Staff for two years. Admiral Higdon has served as the Commanding Officer of the USS Black Hawk since it's inception in 1995 as the Shuttle Shiloh, later named the USS Shiloh and then the Black Hawk.
